St Patricks Day in Savannah

St Patricks Day in Savannah

If you’ve been thinking about joining the party in Savannah for St. Patrick’s Day, now’s the time to get your plans and reservations together.

This year’s parade will be on St. Patrick’s Day, Monday, March 17th, but the crazy-fun good times will start several days before.

Beginning Friday, March 14, River Street will kick off the biggest Savannah party of the year with a St. Patrick’s Celebration on the River. This nationally-recognized festival features multiple stages of non-stop live entertainment, as well as interactive games, food, cold beverages and much more.  And, of course, there’s always the green beer and fountains dyed green!

If you’ve not been here before on St. Patrick’s Day, you’ll want to make plans to join the fun this year.  No matter what your preferences are for accommodations, there’s an inn or boutique hotel in the B&B of Savannah Collection that’s right for you!

Here are our recommendations for where to stay:

1)  Olde Harbour Inn
To be in the very center of the excitement, an apartment-style guest suite on River Street.  Undoubtedly, this is the  best location  in Savannah for being in the very center of  the St. Patrick’s Day Celebration.  Olde Harbour Inn is located directly on River Street, and has some of the most spacious accommodations you’ll find anywhere in the city.  All the rooms are suites, and the hotel is pet and child friendly, if you want to bring the family. (Pets must have advanced reservations, as there’s a fee and limited rooms for your furry friends.)   As you might surmise, it’s not the most inexpensive time to stay on River Street, but your room rate includes enough amenities you’ll feel spoiled and pampered by your stay.  There’s breakfast and a wine and cheese reception served daily, and you can’t beat the location.  It’s literally just a step out the door to be on River Street.1 (2)

2) The Marshall House:
The Marshall House is located just 1/2 block from the Parade Route, and ranks right at top of guest’s Savannah favorites on TripAdvisor.   This popular historic hotel boasts one  of Savannah’s  finest restaurant and a very upbeat and popular lounge, 45 Bistro, on its first floor.    Built in 1851,  The Marshall House has  sixty-eight  guest rooms.   Its Broughton Street location is a hot spot for a spirited good time for parade-goers.  There’s still availability for some rooms at this centrally located hotel, but the coveted balcony rooms are already sold out.  We recommend a visit to their website or a phone call to work out the best room for you.

3)  The East Bay Inn:
Located directly on the parade route, this Inn is always popular for parade and people watching.  The East Bay Inn is perfectly situated for walking around through the party…then taking a break…and then re-joining the fun at your own leisure. This Inn is small and intimate — with only 28 guest rooms and its location on the parade route, it always sells out.  There are a few rooms still available here, so give them a call soon if this sounds like your kind of place to enjoy the event.  Currently ranked #7 out of 112 hotels in Savannah, you cannot go wrong if you book this hotel for the celebration.

4)  The Eliza Thompson House:
Two blocks off the parade route, the Inn is located in the heart of residential historic Savannah.  Here’s you’ll be just a couple of blocks from Forsyth Park and the green’d fountain.  It’s near Savannah’s decorated  squares and popular historic sites, and has it’s own secret Savannah garden.  Highly recommended by guests on TripAdvisor, this very personal Inn is currently rate as #5 out of 112 hotel in all of Savannah.  Guests who are lucky enough to snag a room at this Inn will indeed experience the best of service and accommodations, while enjoying the party of the year.

5)  The Kehoe House:
Classic and sophisticated, The Kehoe House Bed and Breakfast Inn is located on Columbia Square.  It is central to the parade and is just one block off Bay Street and two blocks from the River Street festivities.  It’s right around the corner from The Marshall House, so it’s convenient to Broughton Street, City Market and River Street.  However, this 4-diamond Inn has only 13 guest rooms, and will positively be sold out soon, so contact The Kehoe House soon if you wish to book the weekend here.

6) The Gastonian:
For fans of elegance, sophistication and the fun of Forsyth Park, this is the hotel of choice, as it’s located one block away from the famous green’d fountain.  This award-winning inn is located in a residential neighborhood, near all the fun, but in an excellent position to provide a peaceful, truly relaxing Savannah afternoon after the party.  Of the six Inns in the B&B of Savannah collection, this is the most peaceful Inn during the celebrations.  Parking should be less troublesome here than in other parts of the city.

Wherever you choose to stay, we do hope to see you in Savannah!
