Just thinking about the potential for fun in Savannah next month has us shaking off our winter blues. St Patrick’s Day is just around the corner, and the concierges at Historic Inns of Savannah have some suggestions for you. Here are four things they recommend for the best St Patrick’s Day ever this year:
1. Stay in a Haunted Hotel
Sound scary to you? Have another sip of liquid courage, brave up a bit and join us. We’ll admit the haunted reputation of Savannah plays second fiddle to the Irish shenanigans of St. Patrick’s Day; but that doesn’t mean the paranormal vibe disappears. Celebrate the spooky spirit of Savannah by booking a stay in a 19th century historic hotel or B&B. Who knows? You might run into one of our ghosts wearing green and sipping a to-go cup. Hotels with a haunted reputation to consider: The Marshall House, The Kehoe House, Eliza Thompson House and East Bay Inn. If you’d like to check availability and rates at all of the inns together, click here: March 16 & 17 and March 18 & 19.
2. Take a Haunted Pub Crawl
Continue with the theme of mixing spirits with spirits with one of Savannah’s most popular activities: a Haunted Pub Crawl. Our favorite pub crawls will be crawling on March 16, but not on St. Patrick’s Day. We recommend: Savannah Slow Ride and Cobblestone Tours; and we highly recommend reservations! Both of these tour companies will be closed on the 17th-19th, so if you do want to Pub Crawl, you’ll need to make it St Patrick’s Day eve.
3. Watch the Parade
Take a break from the ghost hunting and start a search for a leprechaun amid the craziest green ensembles on March 17. The 2016 St Patrick’s Day parade starts at 10:15 am and winds around downtown for approximately three hours. All of the details for this years parade have not been unveiled yet, but the parade route doesn’t usually vary from year to year. Here’s last year’s parade map. We expect it to be much the same this year.
4. Eat at One of Our Favorite Casual Savannah Restaurants.
Not-too-fancy, delicious fare will be easy to find if you head to one of our favorite fun spots. These restaurants will be open on St. Patrick’s Day and are recommended by our concierges.
* Jazz’d Tapas Bar (52 Barnard St) will be open 4-10 on St Patrick’s day.
* Fire Street Food (13 E Perry) will have regular hours on March 17: 11 am-10 pm
* J Christopher’s (122 E. Liberty) – Closes at 3:30, but a great place for breakfast and lunch.
* Chive Seabar and Lounge (4 W. Broughton Street) – Open St Patrick’s Day
Here’s some more information about our hotels for a St. Patrick’s Day visit. (Sorry, River Street fans…Olde Harbour Inn on River Street is already sold out.)
The Marshall House has been voted Best Haunted Hotel (USA Today) and Best Boutique Hotel in Savannah (Savannah Magazine), and it ranks right at the top of guests’ Savannah favorites on TripAdvisor, so it’s a great choice. This hotel is on Broughton Street and boasts one of Savannah’s finest restaurants and a very upbeat and popular lounge, 45 Bistro, on its first floor. Built in 1851, The Marshall House has sixty-eight guest rooms. Its Broughton Street location is a hot spot for a spirited good time for parade-goers. There’s still availability for some rooms at this centrally-located hotel. We recommend a visit to their website or a phone call to work out the best room for you. Located directly on the parade route, this Inn is always popular for parade- and people-watching. The East Bay Inn is perfectly situated for walking through the party…then taking a break…and then re-joining the fun at your own leisure. This Inn is small and intimate — with only 28 guest rooms, and its location on the parade route, it always sells out. Give them a call if this sounds like your kind of place to enjoy the event. Two blocks off the parade route, the Inn is located in the
heart of residential historic Savannah. Here you’ll be just a couple of blocks from Forsyth Park and the green’d fountain. It’s near Savannah’s decorated squares and popular historic sites, and has its own secret Savannah garden. Highly recommended by guests on TripAdvisor, the Eliza Thompson House is a remarkable small hotel and makes a memorable place to stay. Book a Room Here and Get an Exclusive 10% Discount.
sophisticated, The Kehoe House Bed and Breakfast Inn is located on Columbia Square. It is central to the parade and is just one block off Bay Street and two blocks from the River Street festivities. It’s right around the corner from The Marshall House, so it’s convenient to Broughton Street, City Market, and River Street. However, this 4-diamond Inn has only 13 guest rooms, and will positively be sold out soon; so contact The Kehoe House soon if you wish to book here. For fans of elegance, sophistication, and the fun of Forsyth
Park, this is a four-diamond hotel of choice, as it’s located one block away from the famous green’d fountain. This award-winning inn is located in a residential neighborhood, near all the fun, but in an excellent position to provide a peaceful, truly relaxing Savannah afternoon after the party. Of the six Inns in the B&B of Savannah collection, this is the most peaceful Inn during the celebrations. Parking should be less troublesome here than in other parts of the city.
